I'm still here! Yes, it's been a long time coming (for the bored or curious, you can read what I've been doing these past months in my blog - basically, work is important, but I love my job and wouldn't give it up for the world) but it's finally here, a new wall.
I must admit I only know 2 things about Vocaloid.
1) LeekSpin
2) Hatsune Miku Chrome theme
Despite this I own two pieces of Vocaloid merchandise - a Figma statuette of Len Kagamine (thank-you gift from a coworker) and a Hatsune Miku Google Chrome cellphone charm (gift for attending the Chrome 1st birthday celebration in Tokyo). Sadly, this makes Vocaloid the only series I have any recent merchandise FOR (barring Kino no Tabi of course). So when I was looking for new scans to wall, I turned to Vocaloid, specifically Len scans. I chose this scan because somehow I liked the style (when I later found related scans and learned they were all by Miwa Shirow, I figured out why -- I like Shirow's bold lines and use of black.)
Anyhow, a trace to clean things up, and then it was time for grunge, since the image was a bit dark and depressing. I traced some inksplats off of stock images and used a few that came in AI CS4's Vector Grime pack. Also had fun with half-tone dot patterns. It's very poparty. It's inspired by the Baron Ueda Chrome theme, although I took the yellow and blue from the original scan.
The title "Singing through the noise" is an allusion to Vienna Teng's album, "Dreaming through the noise". The image looked like the two singers were getting overpowered by speakers and bomber planes, so I felt it was appropriate.
